You can't describe Santiago Calatrava's Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum, even with 1000 words? Perhaps a picture is better. Actually, 43 photos in a flip book are perfect. As part of the pavilion's design, architect Calatrava created a giant white sunscreen in the shape of wings that open and close. This 90-ton moving sculpture, named the Burke Brise Soleil, has no comparisons in the world of architecture, and visitors to the museum find themselves challenged to explain how it works. Artistic License Limited has assembled a pocket-sized, photographic flip book that, when the 3”x 5” pages are thumbed, animates the brise soleil's motion as it gracefully closes and opens during a special noontime “flap.” Calatrava fans, architecture buffs, adults and children alike -- all will be “moved” by the I-FLIPS ™ trip to Milwaukee.
